Emergency / Routine Callouts
Our farm animal team is equipped to deal with all manner of routine and emergency work for our dairy, beef and sheep clients.
We are a proactive, progressive team focussed on providing the very best in everyday farm animal medicine as well as keeping abreast of the latest developments in our field.
24 Hour Service
We provide a 24 hour emergency service, 365 days a year. Please contact us on 01768 865661 and you will be connected to one of our duty vets.
Routine Fertility Visits
We provide comprehensive routine fertility visits to our dairy clients as frequently as needed.
Other areas of dairy work which can be covered during a visit include; mastitis and lameness investigations, advice on youngstock health and rearing heifer replacements.
We also provide information on industry initiatives such as Action Johne’s and investigating problems such as ketosis and metritis.
Flock / Herd Health Planning
Preventative medicine is at the heart of what we do and with ever increasing pressure to reduce antibiotic use, having a comprehensive health plan in place is crucial in maintaining a profitable farm business.
Our vets are able to provide you with a herd/flock health plan for the animals under our care, provided that your stock has been seen within the past year. With advance notice a meeting will be arranged to go through the plan, highlighting any areas of concern and how these can be resolved and improved.
This is also an ideal time to discuss the overall health of your herd/flock and consider joining industry initiatives such as BVDFree England or CheCs health schemes.
Routine Surgery
We carry out routine surgery such as castration and vasectomies, as well as emergency surgery for sheep and cattle. All vets carry a surgical kit enabling them to carry out surgery as needed on farm. At the practice we can carry out minor operations and sheep caesareans.
Bull / Ram Breeding Examinations
Ram and bull fertility testing should be done as standard practice before every breeding season. An infertile animal can quickly become an expensive reason for barren breeding stock.
Ram/bull fertility testing is relatively quick and simple to do. A semen sample is collected and evaluated on farm and the genitals and associated glands are inspected for damage or disease. We recommend booking this in at least 6 weeks before introducing the animal to the rest of the flock/herd as it allows time to resolve any issues before breeding begins.
Farmer Information Group / Meetings
We aim to provide regular farmer meetings throughout the year. These meetings provide the perfect opportunity to keep up to date with the latest developments in the industry, novel treatments and approaches to animal disease.
Large Animal Exports
We have vets who are fully qualified and experienced in carrying out large animal exports. Our vets will conduct any necessary testing before export, carry out examination on the day of travel and complete documentation relevant to the export.
Medicated Feed Prescriptions
Medicated feed prescriptions can be completed upon request. We ask that you allow a full working day to process and prepare these for you.
TB Testing
Our farm animal vets provide TB testing to all of our clients, whether this be private or government funded testing.
